Bhutan Utilizes Hydroelectric Resources for State-Owned Bitcoin Mining Operation

Bhutan, a small Himalayan kingdom, is reportedly using its abundant hydroelectric resources to power state-owned Bitcoin mining. The country is among few that have established a sovereign mining operation. While it remains unclear when the mining began or where it's located, a local government representative confirmed that Bhutan started mining "a few years ago" when Bitcoin was worth around $5,000. The earnings from the operation will help subsidize power and hardware costs. Bhutan is also in talks with Bitdeer to secure 100 MW of power access for a Bitcoin mining data center, which would increase the company's mining capacity by 12%. However, the secrecy surrounding the mining activities has raised concerns about the environmental impact of such operations
