Crypto Aid Israel: Fundraising for War-Affected Citizens
Crypto and web3 communities in Israel have come together to establish "Crypto Aid Israel," a humanitarian initiative aimed at raising funds for Israeli citizens affected by the ongoing war with Hamas. As the conflict has led to displacement and increased humanitarian needs, this organization seeks to provide support through the power of cryptocurrencies.
The initiative has introduced a multi-signature wallet, which is controlled jointly by multiple parties, to collect donations in various cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), and dollar-linked stablecoins like USDT and USDC. This move allows for greater flexibility in receiving contributions, attracting crypto enthusiasts and supporters.
What makes this effort even more significant is the involvement of Israeli banks and regulators, who have taken steps to facilitate the flow of crypto donations. For the first time, these financial institutions are expected to serve as a bridge to move these crypto assets to traditional banks, making the process more accessible and secure.
To ensure the utmost security and transparency, Fireblocks, a specialist firm in crypto safekeeping, has been enlisted to manage the crypto assets collected by Crypto Aid Israel. The organization has implemented a strict policy requiring the consensus of at least four out of seven signatories to authorize the movement of funds from the wallet, adding an extra layer of protection.
Several notable members have joined the alliance, including Fireblocks and MarketAcross, Collider Ventures, CryptoJungle, and the Israel Blockchain Association. Together, they aim to pool resources and raise the necessary funds to provide essential support to those affected by the conflict.
CryptoJungle CEO Ben Samocha expressed the organization's mission, stating, "We hope to raise the necessary funds to provide food and shelter for families who lost their homes. We are also hoping to provide hygiene and medical products for the bombarded Israeli civilian populace and to raise awareness for the horrors the Israeli people are facing right now."
Since the start of the war, which began on Saturday, the toll on Israeli citizens has been devastating. Over 800 Israelis have lost their lives, and more than 2,600 people have been wounded. Additionally, more than 100 individuals have been kidnapped into Gaza, further intensifying the crisis.
The establishment of Crypto Aid Israel showcases the power of blockchain technology and cryptocurrency communities in coming together for a noble cause. By leveraging the advantages of crypto donations, this initiative aims to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those affected by the conflict, providing essential relief during this challenging time.
